Turkish Foreign Minister Cem thanked EU Commission contributions, and emphasized that Turkeys national program represents the most comprehensive compromise and democratization program for Turkey to date.
Cem stressed that Turkey will cooperate with the EU for the implementation of the national program. I define this program as the most assertive and comprehensive democratization program in our republican history, Cem noted.
Verheugen in his part expressed pleasure over the approval of the national program by the Turkish government, stressing that it is an important landmark in Turkeys preparation for EU membership. He also said that the program is a move towards the fundamental transformation of Turkey into a modern democracy.
Stating that the document was a comprehensive reform program, Verheugen stressed the importance of the efforts that would be exerted for the implementation of political and economic reforms. Verheugen said that reforms envisaged in the program should be implemented as soon as possible.
Verheugen said Turkeys national program will be evaluated following its examination by EU sub-commissions, and they would provide feedback on their thoughts, respectfully.
