The index opened the afternoon at 7,957.69 points, peaking to 8,085 points in afternoon trade.
Shares lost an average 4.46% on the day with casualties recorded in every sector. Only 53 shares of the 304 traded in the afternoon gained in value, while 174 lost and the value of 77 remained the same.
The average daily trade volume reached TL144.410 trillion ($145 million). Shares of Akbank, Yapı Kredi Bank, İş Bank(C), Koç Holding and Tüpraş were the heaviest traded shares of the day.
Brokers said that Turkish Economy Minister Kemal Dervişs announcement last night that he did not expect to receive funding for the countrys ailing economy for another two weeks, led to the selling, to some extent, at the exchange today.
Meanwhile, the US dollar traded between TL983-985 on the interbank. Climbing to TL989 around noon, it closed the day at TL994 thousand. The Central Bank announced US$ effective sales at TL988,186 and at TL452,418 for the DM around 3:30 p.m.
O/N and repo rates remained at 80% levels.
