Former owner of failed bank detained by police...
The three men were detained as part of the police operation into the banking scandal, dubbed Operation Cyclone. The investigation concerns allegations that the banks coffers were emptied as the bank was being taken under state guarantee.
Bayraktar founded Egebank and later sold it to Murat Demirel, the nephew of former President Süleyman Demirel, who is already under police custody for apparently trying to make off with a suitcase bulging with the banks cash as the banks security cameras were recording.
Police reportedly picked up the three men on testimony given by Demirel, who claimed that it was in fact Bayraktar who emptied the bank. He claimed that Bayraktar already had $47.5 million in outstanding debts when the purchase was made, prompting Demirel to file in court to have Bayraktars assets frozen.
