Pamukbank official detained over link with Egebank scandal...
Police reportedly also want to talk to Aydoğan Semizer, a former member of the Pamukbank board of directors. Semizer is currently being tried for his role in another bank scandal, this one involving Türkbank.
Neslihan Demirel, the sister of Murat Demiral, the former owner of Egebank who is currently in police custody, has also been detained over her possible role in the scandal.
This comes after Şükrü Esat Erkuş, the former general manager of Egebank, Ali Ertunç Yalçın, who worked under Erkuş at the bank, along with 11 others were detained in İstanbul by police Tuesday for their involvement in the Egebank failure.
Erkuş and Yalçın, along with their former boss, Murat Demirel, currently in police custody, were already being investigated for defrauding Bankekpres, causing it to lose over $12 million. Bankekpres is also under state guarantee.
The investigation dubbed Operation Cyclone concerns allegations that Egebanks coffers were emptied by Demirel and others as the bank was being taken under state guarantee.
