The Deputy Prime Minister says that Turkey has done all that has been asked of it....
Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the far right Nationalist Movement Party and a deputy prime minister in Turkeys tripartite coalition, said that there would be no changes to the appointed board of Türk Telekom, regardless of any pressure that the IMF might bring to bear.
The Turkish Republic has fulfilled all its obligations, said Bahçeli, speaking in the Anatolian city of Kırıkkale on Friday.
The Telekom executive board has been established with worthy members from the bureaucracy as well as from the private sector. I believe they will perform great services, he added.
When Bahçeli was asked to comment on a statement by Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit that he was concerned that the IMF would make political demands of Turkey, Bahçeli said that IMF officials should take into consideration the Turkish reality and the fact that the economic reform program was being carried out.
He said that it was not the right time to make further comments as Economy Minister Kemal Derviş was currently in Washington, conducting meetings with IMF officials.
